On December 29th, I had tears of joy in my eyes as I watched Governor DeWine veto HB68. I knew there would be hurdles to overcome and work to do, but, for a moment, empathy and compassion were at the forefront.

Unfortunately, on Jan 24th, the Ohio Senate voted to override the governor's veto of HB68, which bans nearly all gender-affirming medical care for transgender and gender diverse youth in Ohio.

Transgender friends, family, community members, colleagues, parents of transgender children, and their families, know that I stand in solidarity with you, and I will continue to advocate for you and your right to access lifesaving, gender affirming care.

I have compiled information and resources from trusted organizations to help navigate these challenging times and support the transgender community. True compassion requires action.

How to help:
*Sign up to volunteer for the Trans Care Connect Warm Line to provide free confidential support and information to trans Ohioans. Sign up at http://tinyurl.com/TransCareVolunteer
*You can also offer financial support for trans Ohioans in need of support to access care or relocate to safer states by donating to tinyurl.com/transohiofund
*Tell the ODH your thoughts on the proposed restrictions on gender-affirming care. Send an email by Feb. 5 to ODHrules@odh.ohio.gov. Please use “Comments on Gender Transition Care Rules” as the subject line of your email.
*Follow and support organizations that support the transgender community, including but not limited to: @equality.ohio, @transohio_org, @kycohio, @SouthernEquality @acluoh and @trevorproject

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the NASW

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the NASW Ohio Annual Conference today and what a refreshing and fortifying experience it was to be in community with a room full of social workers. As Keynote speaker, Lee Westgate MBA, MSW, LCSW-C, stated this morning, “Social Workers are not built to hate, we are meant to love.” My cup is definitely full after being surrounded by so many healers, caretakers, and advocates. Many thanks to Lee for sharing inspiration and encouragement to holdfast to our calling in difficult times and to “get into good trouble.”
